EPA to grant Houston $500K for air monitoring in environmental justice communities

The EPA will give nearly half a million dollars to the Houston Health Department to monitor the air for cancer-causing pollutants in environmental justice communities across the city, officials announced Monday.

For the first year of the three-year project, the city's team will work with community members and third-party experts to monitor four air contaminants linked to cancer which are thought to be prevalent in parts of the city: 1,3-butadiene, benzene, formaldehyde and ethylene oxide.
